Frankenstein is trying to not let things get under his skin. He has a tendency to let this happen too often and it affects his ability to relax and let things happen as they may. But sometimes, he needs reminding that life is too short and time goes by so quickly. He thinks the following quote is very apropos and is actually pretty funny.
"Don't take life too seriously. You'll never get out of it alive."

I am a sucker for art supplies. There is nothing more magical for me than when I go home with a new brush or a new tube of colour and make some art with them.
The above picture are Sennelier oil pastels that are by far the creamiest and best oil pastels on the market as far as I'm concerned. And I'm sure that other artists might agree or disagree with me, but that is the nature of art. Everyone has their own way of working and has their own preferences when it comes to what works best for them.
Looking at these oil pastels, I can already conjure up a vague picture in my head of a landscape of some sort. I think some translucent paper might be best on a larger scale ( at least 18" x 24" min in size).
Now that I have everything pretty much set up in my studio, working on large pieces is no longer a problem for me. Yay!

I've been thinking lately that dishes in the kitchen sink are a sub-culture unto themselves. They have an uncanny ability to multiply and grow and to magically appear in the sink at any time of the day. Wash a few dishes and you think that perhaps you might actually get ahead and beat them at their own game. But dishes talk to each other and get the glasses to join in and before you know it, there they are again in the sink...waiting for you, the sponge and the soap.

|Untitled, india ink, casein paint on translucent paper, 9" x 12"|
A new work that I made last week late at night. I wanted to try a new brush that I bought, so it was a good excuse for me to create.
A mixture of black india ink and casein paint on translucent paper.
Looks like watercolour, but it's the casein paint watered down that creates that luminous effect.

Found these heirloom tomatoes in an "organic grocery store". I couldn't stop staring at them, they were so beautiful. And those colours! Yummy not just for the tummy, but also for making some still life paintings with them. With the weather being so hot the last week, I had to take photos of them because I knew I wouldn't have time to paint them before they got too ripe. And at the price I paid for them, there was no way I was going to let them rot and throw them away. So into the salad they went for dinner.

Frankenstein has been waking up early these days due to all the sunshine. But he's not really used to it and is trying to be a good sport about it. In fact, he's trying to get back to his old sports routine of biking, swimming and running, but this has only caused him to be more tired and out of sorts (lactic acid build- up in the muscles can be a bitch). So here's an appropriate quote that Frankenstein thinks will motivate anyone to just do it!
"...Exercising can dramatically increase confidence -- and not for the obvious reasons. It allows you to be in tune with your body and psychologically in control."
-Josephine de la Baume

These five sculptures have been sitting in my studio since the winter. Yesterday afternoon, I finally got the urge to finish painting them. I think these will be the last batch of sculptures that I'll make for now. The response to them has always been either neutral (no reaction whatsoever) or very positive (I've had several clients buy quite a few sculpture busts as a collection).
These clay pieces present quite a conundrum for me because they are small in size and many people think they are fast and easy to make and therefore the prices should reflect the size of the piece and not the work and time that goes into making them.
For myself, I know that I'll make more some day maybe, but for now I need to stop and put my time and energy into my painting. I have too many ideas floating around in my head and I need to put them onto canvas and push my work to the next level. If I continue to jump back and forth between painting and making clay sculptures, my creative process just can't flow as easily and progress. Let's see what happens in the next little while.

|In this picture, Lorenzo is looking dapper and cool. All clothes are from his dad. Yes, Lorenzo can fit and wear all his dad's clothes. He now has 2 closets of clothes from which to choose from.|
Happy birthday! Your dad and I love you very much and wish you all the best in the world!
