Here's a new historical portrait that is more imagined than actually based on anything in real life. Besides using actual antique paintings as references for my work, I also love movie stills from period pieces and British TV series such as Downton Abbey or Call the Midwife. Lots of times, actors can portray real raw emotion when dressed in period costume. They forget who they are and get swallowed into the emotions of the character from so long ago. It's a treat for me to try and capture that in my paintings.
